Fertility Issues

Focussing on fertility issues

Do you feel like you have lost control of your body? Every waking moment is consumed with trying to get pregnant? You forget what it was like to just have sex because you wanted to! You probably know all the medical jargon and terms. Financial worries and relationship problems have become added issues you never anticipated – all you wanted was a baby. It doesn't feel fair. If any of this is familiar too you then you need to consider Hypnotherapy that has been specially tailored to help you through this period of your life

When the body is triggered into fight or flight blood is diverted from non essential organs, the bad news is that the reproductive organs are considered non essential by the body – you don’t need your womb to fight or run! Unfortunately we live increasing stressful lives and finding out it’s a problem to conceive starts a roller coaster of emotions that generally include stress, anxiety, worry and depression. Your entire focus is on your body, every twinge and internal flicker requires analysis, until it becomes your only topic of conversation.

*Hypnosis is a state in which the conscious mind is distracted or preoccupied, allowing a positive statement or suggestion to bypass the critical factor, and enter powerfully into the subconscious mind. A highly effective adjunct to conventional medical care, hypnosis is rapidly becoming the most sought after modality of therapy today.

During hypnotic trance a change occurs in the structure of the brain where the tow halves of the brain are linked. Because of this change, more information flows from one side of the brain to the other than would normally be the case. Nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls habits lose some of their electrical charge enabling one to become more receptive to change at this time. Through imagery and positive suggestions, new connections can be formed among the nerve cells, creating the desired results.

Compelling Evidence for Hypnotherapy with fertility problems:

In an article by Suzy Greaves entitled Can Hypnosis help to make you pregnant? Dr Elizabeth Muir, a clinical psychologist working with hypnotherapy for infertility explains that hypnosis affects the hypothalamus, the neural centre at the base of the brain linked to the pituitary gland and controls the flow of hormones in the body. The hypothalamus is sensitive to stress and acts as a bridge between the emotional and physical, turning emotional messages into physical responses that affect hormone levels. Muir believes that the psychological issues surrounding pregnancy are not sufficiently well addressed for many women with fertility problems.

Studies conducted by Alice Domar, PhD, director of the Beth Israel Deaconess Behavioral Medicine Program for infertility in Boston, support Muir’s theory that unresolved issues about having a baby can be removed with counselling and hypnotherapy. In the first study published in 1999 in the Journal of the American Medical Women’s Association 42% of 132 infertile women in the program conceived within six months of completing it. In the second study, published in 2000 in the journal Fertility and Sterility, 55% of the previously infertile women who met regularly in a mind/body program conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who used no mind/body techniques and who did not attend meetings.

1 out of every 6 couples in Britain may be struggling with the inability to conceive a baby. Most consult conventional doctors and depending on the diagnosis they go down the route of drugs or high tech procedures such as IVF. Since the 1980’s great strides have been made in Assisted Reproductive Technology ‘ART’. A range of options are available including Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer ‘GIFT’ Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer ‘ZIFT’ Egg Donation, Gestatinal Carriers, Intrauterine Insemination ‘IUI’ Invitro Fertilization ‘IVF’. Despite the progress in the treatment of ‘infertility’ the success rate for those undergoing these procedures appears to be about 20%. Stress, disappointment depression and often a severe strain on finances and relationships are the rollercoaster of emotions that follow.

What you can expect:

The initial consultation of one and a half hours is used to create a tailored program, using specialist hypnosis techniques for fertility, designed to work for individuals and couples, which will increase the likelihood of conception by focusing on psychological, physiological, currant and past fertility treatments, conception history and the results from medical investigation. This usually consists of around six sessions.

HypnoFertility can support a variety of fertility issues including Unexplained infertility, PCOS, Low quality sperm and low sperm count, poor quality eggs and fear of childbirth.

How modern day stress & anxiety can decrease fetility

Reproduction is one of the most delicately balanced biological systems. Psychological stress can affect our ability to get pregnant on many levels. Stress and Anxiety can decrease fertility by:

Surpressing luteinizing hormone.
Increaseing serum cortisol levels.
Inhibiting hypothalamic Gnrh function.
Preventing implantation of a fertilized egg.
Reducing egg quality.
Delaying release of eggs.
Elevating prolactin levels.

Hypnotherapy represents a safe and powerful way of increasing fertility either as a sole therapy in cases of unexplained infertility or in combination with fertility treatments such as IVF, IUI, and fertility drugs.

Whatever your journey has been in trying to get pregnant HypnoFertility can help to reduce levels of stress and anxiety. We remove emotional blocks, address feelings of guilt and blame, help couples to work together to keep stress to a minimum before, during and after medical treatment. Basically keeping the process as natural and normal as possible. This can help to increase conception by 30% and double the rate of success of IVF treatment.

It’s Conceivable! Hypnosis for Fertility
Lynsi Eastburn , BCH

In the words of Lynsi Eastburn,

The goal of this program is not simply for the client to become pregnant, but rather to enable an attainment of personal empowerment. For only by doing so will she truly be able to let nature take its course. Through personal empowerment comes inner peace, the ability to accept, appreciate, and embrace life

Hypnotherapy reduces stress and increases, confidence, instilling a sense of control, which in turn maximizes the chances of conceiving naturally or increases the success of medical assistance.
