Habits, Fears and Phobias
The subconscious mind will hold onto to patterns of behaviour or thought, it was designed to do this for our protection - think how many beneficial habits we have. We consciously practice something until our subconscious learns to do it, then we don't need to think about it any more - we can just do it. Much like learning to ride a bike or drive a car. When we want to stop doing something or change a habit we realize its not so easy, after all the subconscious does not know the difference between a good or a bad habit. The quickest and easiest way to change a habit or release a fear or a phobia is by using Hypnotherapy. We can by pass the conscious mind and re programme the subconscious to behave in a manner that suits us better.
People who suffer from phobias may display one or more of the following signs or symptoms:
- Unrealistic or excessive worry, dread or terror involving an object or situation that otherwise harmless.
- A complete and uncontrollable preoccupation with the fear and the object of the fear.
- Typical physical reactions to fear: racing heartbeat, sweating, shortness of breath, shaking.
- An overwhelming urge to flee the situation.
What is a fear?
Fear is a built-in survival mechanism, a survival instinct necessary to respond when we are in immediate danger. When the danger is real this response is correct. Unfortunately modern life has many situations that generate this feeling of fear, this can become a problem when it limits our ability to get the most out of life. When we are faced with an everyday situation that generates the symptoms of fear it is because we believe we do not have the ability to cope with that situation and our bodies go into automatic pilot - going into fight or flight unchecked. Many of our fears are a mix of reality and misinterpretation of our ability to cope. It is not only an uncomfortable feeling but it is also detrimental to our health for this to keep happening.
What is a phobia?
The major difference between a fear and a phobia is that a phobia has a significant degree of irrationality about it.
